Dr. Jeanette Epps is a trailblazing aerospace engineer and retired NASA astronaut whose remarkable career embodies the power of determination, education, and breaking through barriers.
Born in Syracuse, New York, as one of seven children, Dr. Epps excelled in math and science from an early age. She earned degrees from Le Moyne College and the University of Maryland, where she conducted groundbreaking research in aerospace engineering that continues to be highly cited today.
Before joining NASA, Dr. Epps worked as a researcher at Ford Motor Company and spent seven years as a Technical Intelligence Officer with the CIA, including deployments to Iraq.
In 2009, she was selected for NASA's 20th astronaut class, and in 2024, she completed an eight-month mission to the International Space Station as part of SpaceX Crew-8.
Her historic 235-day mission set the record for the longest time an American crewed spacecraft has spent in space on a single mission.
